The curious incident of the dog in the night-time

Recently, I read a novel is called “The curious incident of the dog in the night-time” written by Mark Haddon. In this novel he deals with an autistic child is called Christopher. Christopher was an above average IQ child. The dog incident is core part of the novel.

Christopher loved the dogs. One day his neighbours is called Mrs. Shear’s dog was died and laid in the garden. He was so curious to know that “who killed the dog is called “Wellington”? He enquired Mrs. Shear very suspiciously. She got an angry and called the police. While police was enquiring him, he slapped the police because the police touched him but Christopher does not like if anybody touch him and laugh at him. Then, the police took him to station. This incident made his father’s unhappy and upset. After that police gave a caution and released him from the station. Then his father told him so many times do not to go other people business but he did not stop. Somewhere he got support from his teacher is called Siobhan to do detective job towards the dog incident.

I feel that, while he was doing detective job, he talked with all his neighbours voluntarily because he refused to talk with strangers even though they were his neighbours. As an autistic child he felt that “they were hard to understand”. If he wanted to talk with any stranger just he watched them until he feels, they are safe. Then he used to ask questions to then “do they like pets” “which colour does they like” “what kind of card they drive”, etc. This happened with one of his new staff members at school.

He liked his teacher because she told him not to do something she told him exact reason why he was not allowed to do. He liked it. His teacher approached him in a right way that supported to do detective job about the dog. It made him to build social skills and improved his communication skills. It reduced his tension and frustration towards the strangers.

He liked mathematics. He had a dream that I have to get ‘A’ grade in mathematics and he got it. He loved to solve mathematics problems even though sometimes he was in difficult situations. That gave relaxation to his mind means he was busy in solving problem not concentrating on what was going in outer world? He made a beautiful comparison between life problems and mathematics problems. He said I liked mathematics because it meant solving problems, and these problems were difficult and interesting but there was always a straightforward answer at the end. And what he meant was that mathematics wasn’t like life because in life there are no straightforward answers but there will be an answer.

He was good at playing chess. If he wanted remember any person he used to see what they are wearing, or if they have a walking stick, or funny hair, or a certain type of glasses, or they have particular way of moving their arms. His memory power was good. He was thinking in different ways example when his father had taken back his book which was in written about dog incident investigation. He thought had my father thrown my book into the garbage or else he kept in his cars or else he kept in his room because he could not kept my book into my room because my father knows that is not a safety place.

He made a statement we have learn how to treat animals with kindness and respect. He had a pet is called Toby (rat). He used to make time tables because they make sure he doesn’t get lost in time. He was very good at in remembering directions.

Before started to do detective job he refused to mingle with others example one day his school bus broken on the way. That’s his mother came to pick him up. Mrs. Peters asked his mother if she could take Jack and Polly home because their mothers couldn’t come and pick them up, and his mother said yes. But he started screaming in the car because there were too many people in it and Jack and Polly weren’t in his class. Suddenly he jumped from the car. But when he went to London along the way he was with people on the train and bus. That means he developed his adaptive skills.

In the end of the novel I liked his teacher’s way of respond when he was writing mathematics examination “If you say you don’t want to do it no one is going to be angry with you. And it won’t be wrong or illegal or stupid. It will just be what you want and that will be fine.” She had a big concern about him that means she made him to go into the toilets before the examination and sat on his own and had done breathing and counting exercises.

How do you "know?"

In this article Elli Drago-Serverson writes four important ways of learning such as rule-based, other focused, reflective, interconnecting.
Learning is acquiring new knowledge, behaviours, skills and values understanding the different kinds of information. Human beings learning may occur as part of education development. We can learn new things through our sensory organs. Every child has their own way of learning.

Rule-based: Rule based way of learning children give concentration on their needs, desires and interests. They are very firm about right and wrong decisions; they won’t bother about others. If they said to do something by others, they try to find “what is in it for me?” They ready to modify their answers according to a new right solution. T hey will go step by step to achieve their goals. They open to concrete advice and specific skills.

Other-focused: They rely on others opinions and approvals. They have low self-esteem, low self-confidence. They seek others to set goals for them. They build self-image according to others judgment. They easily disturb by others criticisms. If I do this work what others will think about me? Try to be always good for others. They produce their own values and standards but they will change immediately if anyone comments on it. They will accept conflicting view points without thinking about future consequences.

Reflective: They believe themself. They respect values which are generated by them. We have to set goals according to our own values and standards. Build a positive self-image depends upon our special skill, knowledge and integrity. Straight forward feelings and conflict are always helping us to learn new things. Ask questions ourselves “are we honest and truthful for ourselves or not”?. Try to across the problems not along with problems and try to hit solutions even though those are fantastic. Be open for facilitate and guidance. Try to analyze, critique one’s goals and ideas. Discordant with every new idea it will take us for one more new idea.

Interconnecting: Change our identity according to other’s views. Set goals with team members, share knowledge and power with others. Open to exploration, conflict, complexity and other’s perspectives. Try to seek help from others. Accept the fact and avoid no hierarchal approaches. Good at team work and appreciate others efforts. Encourage others to do work if they are slow. Be sensitive towards others and know others ability and strength.

Really educated people

Really educated people have to ask themselves that “who they are? What are their limitations and where are their possibilities? As a teacher, before I am entering a class I have to ask my self “who they are?” how much they can understand and what are the ways I have to use if I want make them to understand.

Really educated people should think independently, observe, analyze, and discover truth without relying on the opinions of other or prejudice. As a special education teacher, we should not rely on other opinions while taking decision about any child. We have to communicate with the child. We have to observe and analyze their way of learning and their behaviour.

Really educated people have to adjust and enjoy with a variety of new places and experiences. They have to think whole world is thier own home. When I was in the college, I thought my native is my world, but when I came to Bangalore for iACT course its totally different world for me. I started to get new experiences and I started to communicate with new people, who are different from me.

When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic but creatures of emotions.
Dale Carnegie

Main subject
How emotions play a very important role in our learning process?
How should be our education system?
What is the importance to be a creative and innovative person in the competitive world?

Conclusion
We should change our education system. All over the world people agree that education is the key to a healthy mind and a successful life. According to me education should available for all the category people.

Supporting arguments
Emotions play a massive role in child’s learning process. Some connections between learning and emotions have been well documented; for example, poor learning can produce negative emotions, negative emotions can impair learning and positive emotions can contribute to learning achievement and vice versa. Emotions take the child towards the positive motivation, persistence, innovation, determination, creativity and achievement in their life.

Today’s our education is fully theoretical rather than practical. Teacher comes with a technique; she tries to put them into one hole. Why can not they understand “Every Child as Unique”? They have their own personal way of learning. We should drop a traditional way of teaching. We should avoid chalk and talk way of teaching.

We should change our education system. We need to bring multi sensory activities to our classroom because we do not know who will learn in which way. We have to take them to known to unknown. Teacher should be a facilitator. Education system should be student centered education because it emulates a real world learning environment.

Teacher asks a question where they can really think and give an answer. Once if their ideas accepted by everyone their self-esteem and self-confidence will go up. It will make them to be an initiative and creative in their work. Our competitive world seeks creative and higher thinker for every field.
